Rumble named SPCC Learning College Faculty of the Year
MONROE – Nursing Instructor Suzanne Rumble believes her selection as South Piedmont Community College’s Learning College Faculty of the Year honors the entire Associate Degree Nursing program.
“It means a lot, not just for me, but for the whole nursing team,” said Rumble, whose selection was announced by SPCC President John McKay during commencement on May 13 at the Union County Agricultural Services and Conference Center. “My nursing students are everything to me. They’re what drives me, keeps me on my toes. It’s very rewarding to see them come in and not know anything about nursing, and watch them learn and grow and graduate and become nurses that you see in the hospital.”
Rumble and Nursing Chair Joyce Long began the Associate Degree Nursing program in 2006. “I was very honored, extremely honored, I guess especially because it’s a program that Joyce and I started. It means a lot.
“We have a great team as we’ve grown,” she added. “We work as a team. That makes it enjoyable, even though it’s hard work. We work so well as a team, it truly is for the whole nursing program.”
Nominees for the award have to submit a letter to the selection committee, and are observed in class by members of the committee.
Rumble also had high praise for the other two nominees, math Instructor Susan Lauer and Medical Assisting Instructor Lori Starnes. “I would have been thrilled no matter who it was,” Rumble said. “To stand up there with Lori, I know how hard Lori works because our offices are right beside each other. I know Dr. Lauer from being on the Credit Curriculum Assessment Team. Like Dr. McKay said, I felt like we should all get one.”
Rumble will now compete against faculty from other community colleges for the state Learning College Faculty of the Year award.
