Micah Eubanks, a familiar face on the Old Charlotte Highway Campus, has been nominated for the North Carolina Community College System Academic Excellence Award.

"The decision I made to return to college, earn a degree and further my education was founded on the economy," he said. Many adults have made that career-enhancing decision during the recession. Micah Eubanks took it a step further and was accepted into the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. While there, he served as chapter officer and president and is currently serving as vice president of the Carolinas Region representing North Carolina.

Eubanks will graduate from SPCC with a degree in Computer Information Technology in 2012. His original plan was for the CIT degree to be a backup skill set in case the company that he's served for 18 years, Consolidated Metco, was to suffer layoffs. But his time at SPCC evolved into more than just a need to have additional career skills. Seeing his hard work and determination toward his studies, and his induction and active participation in Phi Theta Kappa, his two sons have made the decision to further their educations.

For that, Eubanks is very appreciative of SPCC. "I am so grateful to my family, advisors, instructors and staff that not only motivated me to achieve, but went way above and beyond to see to it that I succeeded."
