Writing-Across-the-Curriculum

The mission of the Communication Center at South Piedmont Community College is to promote learning and student success through improved written and oral communication skills which makes it a natural tie to Writing-Across-the-Curriculum, a movement that values writing as a method of learning. The collective goal is to improve the quality of student writing. At the Communication Center, it is our goal to help students become more proficient writers and speakers by supporting Writing-Across-the-Curriculum.

Common Writing-Across-the-Curriculum principles:

  • Writing is a tool for learning and discovery.
  • Students should have many opportunities to write throughout their college experience.
  • Faculty across the curriculum share responsibility for helping students learn how to write in their respective disciplines.
  • Students need writing practice in order to become more proficient writers.
