A Message from the PresidentDear Applicant,

Welcome to the selection and hiring process at South Piedmont Community College. We thank you for considering us as your choice of employment.
Before you proceed with the full application process, we want you to learn more about SPCC and our philosophies and culture. Please begin by carefully reviewing the college's strategic plan. It gives an excellent overview of what we believe and what we want to accomplish. We also suggest you review the Learning College section of this website.
Individuals who are selected for employment become a valuable member of the SPCC team. It is therefore very important that we have the "right fit" between the college's and individual's philosophy of education. We strongly believe that all team members should believe and support the Vision, Mission, Purpose, and Values as defined in the strategic plan.
As you review the above, four themes should emerge as "non-negotiable" expectations we have for all who work at SPCC. These are:
*A commitment to students and student learning. SPCC exists to cause student learning, and it is the most important job for every employee. Yes, you are applying for a specific position but your number one priority is to help students learn. Everyone contributes to this in some manner in the performance of their duties.
*A belief in teamwork and the team. The team comes first. We all play an equal and vital role in setting team goals and achieving results.
*Exemplary customer service to all is another given for SPCC. We believe that students, prospective students, and colleagues are our customers. Whatever your position or role, exemplary customer service is expected at all times. Exemplary service is defined as exceeding the customer's expectations by caring about the customer and paying attention to details.
*Accountability is another given. While it is the college's responsibility to provide the resources each person needs to do his job and do it well, each person is ultimately responsible for his performance. Reward and recognition will be given to those who exceed expectations.
Because of our commitment to student learning, SPCC was recently recognized by Washington Monthly as the 14th best community college in America. We believe in doing all we can to enroll, retain, and graduate students who can be successful in work and life.
If you believe in these values and have a passion to help students learn and be successful, we encourage you to complete the application process. Thank you for you consideration of SPCC.
Sincerely,
John R. McKay, Ed.D.
President
