School-Age Education

With school-age education credentials, you will be prepared to work in child care programs, before/after school programs, and recreational centers. Job responsibilities can include planning and implementing programs that foster language, physical, and social development of children in elementary and middle school.
Students will combine learned theories with practice in school settings under the supervision of qualified teachers. Course work includes child grow/development; computer technology in education; physical/nutritional needs of school-age children; care and guidance of school-age children; and communications with families and children.
Graduates will be prepared to work in elementary and middle schools, for private schools, and in various education programs.

South Piedmont Community College has an extensive selection of programs developed for occupational fields. Emphasizing career preparation, these programs of study confer an Associate of Applied Science Degree (AAS). The coursework for a degree can be completed in two years.
