Early Childhood Education
With a degree, diploma or certificate in early childhood education, you will be ready to teach and care for children from birth to age eight. Job responsibilities can include planning and teaching.
The Early Childhood Education curriculum combines instruction with practicums under the supervision of qualified teachers. Students will learn theories that foster cognitive/language, physical/motor, social/emotional and creative development of young children.
Coursework includes child growth and development; physical/nutritional needs of children; care and guidance of children; and communication skills with parents and children.
Graduating as early childhood education practitioners, students will be equipped to seek employment at:

preschools
public and private schools
recreational centers
school-age programs

South Piedmont Community College has an extensive selection of programs developed for occupational fields. Emphasizing career preparation, these programs of study confer an Associate of Applied Science Degree (AAS). The coursework for a degree can be completed in two years.
