South Piedmont Community College students have access to a wide range of endowed and local scholarships. Endowed scholarships are provided through permanent funds established by benefactors and invested by the college. Local scholarships are made available from various local sources. Both endowed and local scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need, academic performance and other criteria as directed by the donors.

How to Apply Information about usernames and passwords SPCC usernames are comprised of the first letter of your first name, the first three letters of your last name and the last four digits of your Student ID number. Temporary passwords are comprised of the word "Temp" followed by your two-digit birth month, your two-digit birthday followed by the plus sign. The "T" in the word Temp must be capitalized. Example: If you are a future student and have not been assigned a Student ID number complete an Application for Admission. Once your application has been accepted, you will be informed of your assigned Student ID number and will be able to create your SPCC username as stated above. Carpenter Healthcare Scholarship
An endowed scholarship established by former trustee and current foundation director, Frank Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter is the founder and served as the first president of State Utility Contractors, Inc., in Monroe.
Criteria:
• Preference to students residing in Union County and enrolled in Associate Degree Nursing program.
• Must have 2.5+ GPA
Catherine Elizabeth Covington Endowed Scholarship
Established through the generosity of Steve and Anne Covington Leary to honor the memory of Catherine Covington, granddaughter of Mrs. Leary.
Criteria:
• Students preparing for a career in an associate degree or diploma program or taking a minimum of 20 hours in an occupational continuing education program to begin or enhance a career.
• Preference to Anson County residents
• Students must have earned an overall 3.0 GPA
Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Company Scholarship
An endowed scholarship established through the generosity of Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Company and its Dowd Foundation.
Criteria:
• Recipients may be enrolled in curriculum or career- related continuing education programs.
• Preference given to current employees and children of current employees of Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Company.
CMH Scholarship
Established through the generosity of CMH partners Kerry Capell, John Capell, Marsden Haigh, and Hoy Lanning. CMH is a floor covering products company with headquarters in Wadesboro.
Criteria:
• Designated for students who demonstrate need but do not qualify for federal financial aid.
• Enrolled in credit or continuing education programs
• Preference given to CMH employees and children of CMH employees.
Creative Food Concepts Scholarship
Established by Creative Food Concepts, the catering company providing food service on the OCH campus.
Criteria:
• Preference to Union County residents
• Enrolled in an associate degree program
• Minimum 3.0 GPA.
District Gov. Lois McLean Crumpler Wadesboro Rotary Club Scholarship
Created in honor of Lois McLean Crumpler, a long-time administrator at SPCC and former Rotary district governor, for her work with the SPCC Adult Basic Skills program.
Criteria:
• Preference to student who has earned an Adult High School diploma or GED from SPCC’s adult literacy program.
• Resident of Anson County
• Enrolled in a diploma or AAS degree program
• Must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA
Golden Leaf Scholarship
The Golden LEAF Foundation was created to provide assistance to students in North Carolina counties that are economically distressed or tobacco-dependent.
Criteria:
• Must be from Anson, Richmond, or Stanly County.
Hoyle Lee Endowed Scholarship
Established through the generosity of the Hoyle W. Lee family.
Criteria:
• Resident of Anson or adjoining county.
• Enrolled full-time in a health technology program with an overall GPA of 2.5 or better.
• Preference given to students in the practical nursing program, serving in a long-term nursing care facility, and current or previous employees (or their children), of Heritage Hills Nursing Home.
Human Services Club Pursuing Excellence Scholarship
Established by SPCC’s Human Services Club.
Criteria:
• Resident of Anson, Union, or surrounding counties
• Enrolled in the human services degree program intending to pursue a bachelor’s degree at a senior institution in a human services field.
• Must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA at SPCC
• Award paid to the senior institution upon student’s enrollment in a minimum of 6 credit hours at a senior institution.
James A. Hardison, Jr., Endowed Scholarship
Established to honor Mr. James Hardison, Jr., a civic leader and charter member of the SPCC Board of Trustees.
Criteria:
• Preference given to students residing in Anson County
• Pursuing an associate degree in business administration
• Enrolled full-time with a minimum 3.0 grade point average
John McKay Presidential Scholarship
Established to honor Dr. John R. McKay, South Piedmont Community College president from July 1, 2003 to June 30, 2011.
Criteria:
• Resident of Anson or Union County
• Enrolled in a degree or diploma program
• Minimum 3.0 grade point average
Las Amigas Scholarship
Established through the generosity of the Morven Chapter of Las Amigas.
Criteria:
• Resident of Anson County, with preference given to students residing in Morven.
• Enrolled full-time in an associate degree or diploma program
• Minimum 2.0 GPA
Margie & J.B. Watson, Jr. Endowed Scholarship
Created to honor Mrs. Watson’s memory and J.B. Watson, a former trustee, by the partners of J.B. Watson & Company. Mr. Watson, a certified public accountant, was the founder of J.B. Watson & Co. of Wadesboro.
Criteria:
• Minimum 2.5 GPA
• Preference given to Anson County residents
Part-Day Preschool Association
Made possible through the generosity of the Part-Day Preschool Association in Union County.
Criteria:
• Awarded annually, as funds permit, to a student in the early childhood education program enrolled in a minimum of 6 semester hours.
• Successful completion of a minimum of 12 credit hours of early childhood education coursework.
• Minimum 2.5 GPA.
Pat Johnson Memorial Scholarship
Established by the SPCC Foundation to honor the memory of Ms. Johnson, a longtime computer instructor at SPCC who passed away unexpectedly in the spring of 2006.
Criteria:
• Enrolled in computer science, OST, or advertising/graphic design
• Based on financial need and merit
• Preference given to students residing in Morven
Pilot Club of Monroe
Pilot Club, an international service organization, with the mission of helping people afflicted with brain disorders.
Criteria:
• Enrolled in the Early Childhood program with a concentration in special education taking at least 6 semester hours
• Minimum 2.5 GPA
• Awarded annually in the fall; may be renewable
Premiere Fibers Scholarship
Established by Premiere Fibers, Inc. a textile firm operating in Ansonville.
Criteria:
• Preference given to students residing in Anson County
• Minimum 3.0 GPA.
Robert D. & Jewell H. Lee Healthcare Scholarship
Established through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee of Albemarle. Mr. Lee, an Anson County native, is a retired certified public accountant who operates a working farm in Anson County. Mrs. Lee is a former adjunct instructor at SPCC.
Criteria:
• Preference given to students from Anson County pursuing a degree in healthcare.
• Must maintain a 2.5 minimum GPA
Robert D. & Jewell H. Lee Endowed Scholarship

State Employees Credit Union Scholarship
Established by the State Employees Credit Union Foundation of North Carolina.
Criteria:
• Resident of North Carolina with a demonstrated financial need through FAFSA
• Enrolled full-time (12 credit hours) in a degree, diploma, or certificate program
• Minimum 2.5 GPA
• Award exemplifies community service, “people helping people,” with an annual award of $2,500 per year for two years
State Utility Contractors Scholarship
An endowed scholarship established through the generosity of the Monroe-based State Utility Contractors, Inc.
Criteria:
• Resident of Union or surrounding counties, with the exception being those employees of State Utility Contractors or their children may reside in any county.
Susan Margaret Horne Scholarship
Established by and funded through the generosity of Mr. Kenneth W. Horne Jr. and Mr. Chuck Horne in memory of their sister. Together, Mr. Kenneth Horne and Mr. Chuck Horne manage Hornwood, Inc., a textile firm in Lilesville founded by their father, Mr. Kenneth W. Horne, Sr.
Criteria:
• Resident of Anson or adjoining counties
• Enrolled full-time in an Allied Health program
• Maintain a 3.0 GPA.
• Preference given to practical nursing or surgical tech students and those planning to continue their education beyond the diploma level.
Trustee and Foundation Leadership Endowment
Created and funded through the generosity of members of the SPCC Board of Trustees and the SPCC Foundation Board of Directors.
Criteria:
• Resident of Union or Anson County
• Enrolled in curriculum or Continuing Education program (if enrolled in Con Ed, a letter of recommendation from instructor is required)
• Minimum 3.0 GPA
• Preference to SPCC GED graduates
W. Cliff Martin Endowed Scholarship
Created in honor of W. Cliff Martin, a charter member of the Board of Trustees of SPCC. Mr. Martin, a successful businessman and long-time mayor of Polkton, donated the land for the Polkton campus. The Martin Technology Building and the Martin Student Center are named in his honor.
Criteria:
• Full-time credit student
• Resident of Anson County
• Minimum 3.5 GPA
• Preference given to Polkton residents
Wade Manufacturing Scholarship
Established through the generosity of Wade Manufacturing Company, a long-time textile firm operating in Wadesboro.
Criteria:
• Preference given to students residing in Anson County, Wade Manufacturing employees, their spouses and children.
Wells Fargo Technical Scholarship
Established by Wells Fargo, formerly Wachovia Bank
Criteria:
• Second-year student in a technical program at SPCC
• Recipient must demonstrate scholastic promise in the first year of the program
William Dunlap Covington Endowed Scholarship
Established through the generosity of Mrs. Anne Covington Leary, a former college trustee, to honor the memory of the late Dunnie Covington, a Wadesboro businessman who was instrumental in the creation of the Anson County Chamber of Commerce.
Criteria:
• Resident of Anson or adjoining counties
• Enrolled in the second year as a full-time student in a business technology associate degree program
• Minimum 3.0 GPA.
