Surgical Technology at SPCCSurgical Technology

The demand for surgical technicians is expected to increase rapidly with the increasing age of Baby Boomers. Surgical technicians assist with surgical procedures under the supervision of surgeons or registered nurses. Surgical technicians set up operating rooms with surgical instruments, equipment, sterile drapes and solutions. Patients are prepared for surgery by surgical technicians.

The Surgical Technology diploma program at SPCC is designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed for entry-level positions in the surgical technician field.

Course work emphasizes:

  • Maintaining aseptic conditions
  • Patient preparation for surgery
