Application Process
Students should apply for financial aid as soon after January 1 of each year as possible and are strongly encouraged to apply at least eight weeks prior to registration. However, one cannot apply before January 1. The award year includes fall, spring and summer terms. Because an individual's income usually changes each year, one must complete an application each award year.
To receive priority for all types of federal financial aid, students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and application process so that approval is received by June 15. Students planning to enter in the spring semester should complete the FAFSA application process so that approval is received by November 15. The summer priority date is March 15.
There is no charge to complete the FAFSA application and, by doing so, the student will be considered for all types of federal and state financial aid. You can apply electronically from your home computer or from a computer at your public library or high school. The webpage address is www.fafsa.gov.
Schools can no longer order paper FAFSAs. Students can obtain and complete a paper FAFSA by calling 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243). A PDF version of the FAFSA is available at www.fafsa.gov/options.htm. Students can access the PDF, complete the form on the computer or by hand, and mail to the address listed on the form.
Important Note: When applying online, the FAFSA will not be processed by the Department of Education if it is not appropriately signed (either electronically by PIN or through a mailed-in signature page).
