Introduction to Drugged Driving

Monday May 23rd 2016: 0800-1200

Learning Objectives:
•Define the term “drug” in the context of DWI enforcement
•Describe the incidence of drug involvement in motor vehicle crashes and DWI enforcement
•Name the categories of drugs
•Describe the observable signs of impairment usually associated with the major drug categories
•Describe medical conditions and other situations that can produce similar signs of impairment
•Describe appropriate procedures for dealing with drug impaired or medically impaired suspects

Course Synopsis: Intro to Drugged Driving class will introduce students to drug impaired driving issues, the student will be able to recognize a drug impaired driver and take appropriate action during a traffic stop or crash investigation. The student will be able to define the working definition of a “DRUG” as it relates to traffic safety. The student will be introduced to the seven drug categories according to the NC Drug Matrix. At the end of this class, an SFST refresher will be completed. This class should be taken prior to ARIDE and after Basic SFST.
Important: This class will not qualify you as a Drug Recognition Expert.
