I-CAR Industry Alliance Classes

I-CAR Classes offered at SPCC (PDF)

South Piedmont offers classes from I-CAR, the largest certifying organization in the automotive repair field. Classes are offered on the L.L. Polk Campus in Polkton and students receive in-depth training in the classroom as well as hands-on training in the lab. There are 50 different I-CAR Alliance classes available at SPCC, which offers at least two of them at a time. The cost for each class is very reasonable.

Industry-trained technicians make an average of 15 to 20 percent more than untrained technicians and more and more shops are requiring I-CAR training of their employees. It is very difficult to get a start in Auto Body without proper training.

"Our I-CAR curriculum allows us to be able to educate beginners, as well as technicians that just want to sharpen their skills to keep up with today's modern vehicles," Winfrey said. "With our I-Car Professional development training, we give students a head start as they seek employment on an entry level."

Robert Winfrey, SPCC's Auto Body instructor, has 39 years’ experience in the auto body repair field, he is also an I-Car certified Instructor, Auto Body Technician and is an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Certified Technician, a published author and a member of both the Coalition for Collision Repair Excellence and the Collision Hub for educators. He is a show-winning auto body painter, a former NASCAR crew member and has owned his own auto body shop for more than 15 years.

Job placement assistance is available and we face a high demand for younger technicians nationwide. You can see some of the employment opportunities on the web site. I-Car certifications are good in the USA, Canada, New Zealand and Puerto Rico.
