Mary Berger, Alexis Scarborough, Ed WolfeMassage Therapy students show their muscles

MONROE – Students in South Piedmont Community Colleges Massage Therapy program finished the fall semester with a fun competition involving skeletal models and Play-Doh.

Each student had a skeleton measuring about 2 to 3 feet tall. They used different colors of Play-Doh to place muscles on the skeleton, with a goal of those muscles being in the right place and the right size, proportionally. They could also add other features to their skeleton to give it some personality. For instance, Justin Talbert of Stanfield named his skeleton Gene Simmons, for the Kiss lead singer, and gave it an extra-large tongue.

The three judges for the competition were Geri Duncan (creativity and artistry), Barb Firestone (wow factor) and biology Instructor Dr. Ed Wolfe (medical accuracy). They rated each skeleton on a 1-10 scale in each category and totaled the score.

Alexis Scarborough of Monroe took first place with her skeleton, Che Che.
