Lighting the Way conference set for Aug. 26 at SPCC
MONROE – The Lighting the Way annual conference for part-day preschool professionals is scheduled for Aug. 26 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on South Piedmont Community College’s Old Charlotte Highway Campus.
Registration is $25 for Part Day Preschool Association members and $30 for non-members. Registration forms must be postmarked by Friday, Aug. 12. There will be no registration the day of the conference.
Keynote speaker will be Smokie Brawley, a behavior specialist with Child Care Resources, Inc. Brawley has worked with young children for 35 years. In addition to raising her own four children, she has been a Girl Scout leader, a Sunday school teacher, nursery worker and program coordinator for her church; a preschool teacher and administrator, and an early childhood specialist providing technical assistance and training in child-care facilities.
Sessions include “Building Blocks of Literacy for Preschoolers,” “Fun Time = Brain Time,” “Hands and Senses, Multisensory Development,” “I am an Educator, Not a Babysitter,” “Multiculturalism in the Classroom,” “They’re 2, What Can We Do?” and “Integrating Gross Motor Skills Into the Classroom.”
