Two awarded $5,000 SECU scholarships for SPCC

MONROE – Two South Piedmont Community College students were awarded two-year, $5,000 scholarships from the SECU Foundation on Friday, Aug. 12.

Cody Rollins and Sean Sabin are both first-year students. Rollins plans to work toward an Associate in Arts degree and Sabin plans to pursue an Associate in Science.

Rollins, 18, lives in Marshville and is a Piedmont High School graduate. Sabin, 18, of Monroe, is a Porter Ridge High School graduate.

The scholarships are funded solely by State Employees’ Credit Union members. They were presented by Roy Young, chairman of the SECU’s local advisory board, and SPCC President Stan Sidor.

Since 2005, the SECU Foundation has provided two People Helping People scholarships to each of the 58 community colleges in North Carolina.
