SPCC to Host School and Community Security Conference

South Piedmont Community College will host a School and Community Security Conference Sept. 20 in the Conference Center on the Old Charlotte Highway Campus, 4209 Old Charlotte Highway, Monroe.

John Giduck, author of “Terror at Beslan,” will lead the all-day conference on the vulnerabilities of U.S. schools to terrorist assault and changes in security that schools need to make. The program is recommended for officials who oversee facilities that attract large numbers of people.

In “Terror at Beslan,” Giduck analyzed a terrorist attack in Russia that resulted in more than 300 deaths. Giduck currently devotes much of his time to the Archangel Group, a non-profit agency providing antiterrorism consulting and training. He serves as a Special Forces hand-to-hand combat and firearms instructor.

The cost of the program is $129 per person and includes materials, lunch and a copy of the book “Terror at Beslan.” Special pricing is available for law enforcement, EMS and fire department officials. For more information or to register, call Geri Duncan at 704-290-5100, ext. 5221.
