450 attend Union County Career Fair

Around 450 job seekers attended the Union County Career Fair on Friday, April 27, on South Piedmont Community College’s Old Charlotte Highway Campus. There were also 56 vendors, many of them local employers who were looking to hire.

“I think it was a rousing success,” said SPCC Human Resources Development Director Linda Kappauf. “People were engaged. I could see the networking going on between the employers and job seekers.”

Kappauf said some employers had been reluctant to attend the last two years while the U.S. was in a recession. “The last couple of years, they did not feel comfortable attending if they had laid people off or cut back hours,” she said.

That the employers had returned and actually had jobs available was a good sign, in Kappauf’s eyes. “Little by little, we’re starting to head in the right direction,” she said.

Kappauf was thankful for everyone who participated. “We just so appreciate all the support from the employers, the SPCC staff and participants,” she said. “It takes all three to make this event a success.”
