SPCC student wins logo contest for state organization
South Piedmont Community College student John Williams has won a contest to design a logo for the North Carolina Cooperative Education Association. He wins $100 and the association will use his logo.
Williams, 35, of Polkton, is a student in SPCC’s Advertising and Graphic Design program. Entering the contest was an assignment in one of Linda Ward’s classes. The contest was open to students and faculty.
“I sat in class and drew a couple of sketches,” Williams said. “Drawing is second nature to me, pretty much. That’s how I start a lot – just drawing sketches and going from there.”
He drew enough that he ended up with eight different concepts for the logo. “That’s the one they picked,” he said.
Williams enrolled at SPCC after getting laid off at Consolidated Metco. “I was drawing, had started working with Photoshop,” he said. “I love to draw, I love graphic design. What better fit?”
Williams is scheduled to graduate in May.
