Free College Day set for Saturday, Feb. 18

MONROE – Ever wondered what classes are like at a community college? Ever wanted to learn how to kayak?

Huh? What do those two things have to do with each other?

Come to South Piedmont Community College’s Free College Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 18, on the Old Charlotte Highway Campus and find out. It will be a chance to experience college for free and learn a little something in the process.

The schedule includes classes that are serious as well as some that are just plain fun, like the kayak class.

With more than 70 classes designed for ages 13 and up, there should be something to suit almost everyone’s interests or pique their curiosity. There will be six sessions, beginning on the hour at 9 a.m. For a complete schedule and to register in advance, go to www.spcc.edu and click on the “Free College Day” button on the home page. Each class has a seating limit, so register as soon as possible to guarantee you get in the classes you want.
Sign up for one class, or sign up for six and stay all day. The Human Services Club will be selling food at a nominal cost and Early Childhood Education faculty will provide free children’s classes. Seats are limited for the children’s classes.

Additionally, FAFSA Day will be held on the same day from 9 a.m. until noon. Students attending or planning to attend any college are welcome to drop by and get help with their Free Application for Federal Student Aid, which is required for most financial aid everywhere. Visit www.spcc.edu to learn what documents are needed before you arrive. For information about FAFSA Day, contact SPCC Financial Aid Director John Ratliff at 704-272-5325 or jratliff@spcc.edu.
