SPCC holds 2012 graduations
South Piedmont Community College completed its academic year Friday with two separate graduation ceremonies at the Union County Agricultural Services and Conference Center. SPCC President Stan Sidor presided over both for the first time since his tenure began last July.

In life and death, father provided motivation for SPCC grad
Jamie Rollins was in his next-to-last semester working on his associate degree at South Piedmont Community College when his father – whom he described as “my biggest supporter when it came to returning to college to complete my degree” – became gravely ill. James Rollins spent a month and a half in Carolinas Medical Center-Union and the Jesse Helms Nursing Center before he died in September. “I spent many days in his hospital room, reading textbooks and taking notes,” Rollins said. “That was at his urging. If I ever showed up without a book, he would ask me why I didn’t have my school work with me.”

SPCC's GED Fast-Track jump-starts new educational path for student
Jennifer Faulk had been out of school for more than 20 years when she decided to pursue a GED, or General Educational Development, diploma. Faulk, 38, did not expect what came next. When she took her placement test for GED classes at South Piedmont Community College, her score placed her in the upper tier of prospective students. That qualified her to enter the GED Fast Track program, which allowed her to quickly finish her GED courses and begin either a career exploration track or college preparation track.

Medical Sonography combines two loves for SPCC grad
Kirk Castle considers himself a computer nerd. And, he likes helping people. When he began exploring careers in a medical field, his wife suggested sonography as a possibility and the more he looked into it the more he liked the idea.
